The future is unreadable in both directions. That is the uncomfortable part, and it is also the opening.
Ask people about the year that changed things for them and they almost never describe a plan. They describe an accident. A job that came up because somebody else left. A friendship that started in a queue. A phone call on an ordinary Tuesday in March.
None of it was visible the week before. It could not have been forecast by anyone standing where they were standing.
