Love goes quiet under pressure. It does not leave. It drops to a pilot light, small and blue and easy to mistake for nothing at all.
You can check it without much effort. Notice whether you still flinch when somebody else is hurt. Notice whether a particular voice on the phone still changes your shoulders. That flinch is the whole thing, still lit.
Hard times do not burn it off. They turn the volume down for a while, and volume is not the same as presence.
