Focus sounds like an act of attention, but with people it is mostly an act of logistics. You focus on someone by making them toast, by being in the room at ten o'clock, by driving them somewhere dull and waiting outside.
When your own week has gone narrow, that turns out to be a mercy. You do not have to feel warm to do any of it. The doing has its own effect, on them and, in a way that surprises people, on you.
