There is someone in every workplace who explains the system to each new starter. Where the forms live, who to actually ask, which meeting can safely be skipped. It appears on nobody's job description and never comes up in a review.

Value and invoices are only loosely related. Much of what you contribute is uncosted, which is not the same as worthless — it is simply not the sort of thing anyone thought to measure.

Somebody got through a hard afternoon this month because of four minutes of yours that you have already forgotten.
