Decisions get judged with information they never had. You look at a choice made in 2019 and score it against everything learned in 2020, which is a rigged review by any standard. The fair question is narrower. Given what was actually known, and how tired you were, and what the alternatives looked like at the time, was it defensible? Usually it was.
Best doesn't mean optimal. It means made by somebody who was paying attention and taking their own interests seriously. That is a standard you can meet on an ordinary day, and it doesn't require having been right.
