Anyone can ask what you do. The second question — *and do you like it?* — is where a conversation turns into an actual encounter. People remember that attention for years and usually can't explain why. It costs nothing, and almost nobody does it.
Drawing people toward you has far less to do with being interesting than with being genuinely interested. Which is good news, because one of those requires becoming somebody new and the other is available at the next thing you attend, for free.
