Load-bearing walls look like ordinary walls. You only find out which is which when somebody opens the plans, or tries to take one out.
Strength has the same problem of visibility. From inside it feels like nothing — just the morning, just getting the kids fed, just not saying the thing you badly wanted to say. Nobody experiences their own endurance as impressive; they experience it as the only option on offer. Which is exactly how it looks from outside too, except that from there it looks like strength.
