The bulb in the shared stairwell went two months ago and everyone has been climbing in the dark, each assuming it belongs to somebody else. It costs three pounds and eight minutes.
A corner is a deliberately small unit. It rules out most of what makes people despair - the scale of things, the news, the sense that nothing you do registers anywhere. What it leaves is the stairwell, the bin area, the neighbour nobody has seen since Easter. All of those are in range, and each of them is somebody's whole daily experience.
