Privilege is hard to see from the inside because it shows up as absence — the problems that never arrived, the friction that wasn't there.

It's the form already printed in your first language. The shop where nobody followed you down the aisle. The assumption of competence you were handed before saying anything.

Noticing this isn't self-flagellation, and it doesn't cancel your difficulties. Two things hold at once: your life has been genuinely hard in places, and some doors opened without your ever knowing they had a lock.

Today, catch one piece of friction you didn't have to feel. Then be a little more generous with someone who did.
