What's within reach sits one layer down: what you look at, what you rehearse, who you spend the evening with, whether you eat something and go outside. Mood follows those. Not immediately, and not obediently, but it follows.
Saying you're in charge of your mind is too strong. Saying you're in charge of its inputs is about right, and far more useful.
