Watch someone talk about the thing they know most about — beekeeping, a football club, the correct way to lay a fire. Their face does something that a photograph almost never catches.

That is most of what people mean by radiant. Not symmetry. Not skin. Animation: the visible fact of a person being switched on. Which is why it tends to be other people who say it and never a mirror — you can't watch it happening on yourself. You can only keep doing the thing that causes it.
