The brain does not file a documentary about a murder and a phone call from your sister in separate drawers. It's all just material, and at three in the morning it gets sorted without your involvement.
There's nothing improving about this. It isn't a moral position on what people ought to watch. It's closer to noticing that coffee after eight has consequences you'd rather not have agreed to.
Try it as an experiment for a week rather than an argument. Something undemanding for the last hour — a cooking show, an old film you've seen twice — then see what the small hours are like. If nothing changes, go back. Most people don't.
