Read anyone's career backwards and it looks deliberate. Each move sets up the next. Nobody mentions the two years of confusion in the middle, or the job taken because rent was due on the eleventh.

A life plan is rarely a document. It's closer to a direction you keep returning to after each detour, and the returning is the plan.

There's a check available at any time: over the last three years, have the things you care about been given more room or less? That question is answerable, and it's a far better test than certainty about the next decade, which no one has ever actually possessed.
