Getting through rarely means returning to the previous arrangement. People come out of long illnesses with a different job. Out of a bereavement with a different circle of friends. The house is often a different house.
That's not the loss it sounds like from here, though it will feel like one for a while. Continuity is a thing we assume we need, and mostly what's needed is something else — a life shaped to fit the person now doing the living.
You'll still be the one on the other side. It's the furniture that gets rearranged, not the occupant.
