Some thoughts are alarms, and an alarm isn't asking to be reworded. It's asking you to check the kitchen.
The skill is telling the two apart. *I'm going to fail at everything forever* is a distortion, and it responds well to being questioned. *I've been avoiding that phone call for three weeks and it's getting worse* is not a distortion. Reframing that one only silences the alarm while the pan keeps smoking.
Reframing works best on the thoughts about the facts, not on the facts. Ask which kind you're holding. If it's the second, the relief you want is on the far side of a ten-minute task.
