The 7:12 comes at 7:12. There is a small, unglamorous pleasure in that, the same one you get from a barber who already knows how you have it and a shop that still stocks the thing.

Certainty gets a bad press alongside spontaneity, as though a predictable life were a failure of nerve. But most people's adventurousness is funded by a stable base. You can risk a great deal when you know what's waiting at home.
