The body's alarm runs faster than the part of you that would explain things to it. A slammed door has you halfway out of the chair before you know it was a door.
That gap is not a flaw in your character. It is the order the equipment was built in — feeling first, understanding second — and arriving at it in that order is not evidence you have failed to learn something.
What experience gives you is not immunity. It is a kind of record the body eventually consults: this, again, and last time there was an after.
