New angles need slack in the same way. They do not arrive during the crisis; they arrive in the shower afterwards, on the way to the shops, in the ten minutes before sleep when the problem is no longer being gripped.
Which makes putting it down for an hour practical rather than indulgent. It is not avoidance. It is the only condition under which the rest of your thinking can get anywhere near it.
