Worries sort into two piles and the sorting is most of the job. One pile has a next action in it — a call, a sentence said to somebody, a number checked. Those tend to shrink dramatically the moment the action happens, often to nothing at all.
The other pile has no action attached. Whether the contract gets renewed. What was meant by a look in a corridor.
Those do not respond to thinking, though they invite an enormous amount of it, usually between two and four in the morning. Letting go is less a decision than a repeated putting down of the same object, which is tiring and also works.
