Purpose shows up first as refusal. Before anyone can say what they are for, they start noticing what they are no longer willing to give a Thursday evening to.
That is why it often feels negative from the inside — like becoming duller, less available, harder to invite anywhere. From outside it looks like direction.
A life with a shape is largely a life with a shorter list. The things that survived the cut were not chosen once, in a moment of clarity. They were chosen forty times, in small unremarkable refusals nobody witnessed.
