The wisest thing available on most days is a delay. The reply written at eleven at night and sent at nine the next morning, after one read-through, is a different message entirely, and usually a shorter one.
Cleverness is fast. It wants to answer immediately, it is frequently right and occasionally catastrophic. What gets called wisdom is often just a willingness to be slower than you are capable of being.
