I now know how to destroy a negative thought

Say the thing out loud to one person and watch what happens to it. Nine times in ten it comes out shorter than expected, and slightly embarrassed, and much less structurally sound than it was at four in the morning.

Thoughts survive on being unspoken. In the dark they can borrow authority from everything around them; in a kitchen at eleven a.m., with someone eating toast opposite, they have to stand on their own.

Writing works similarly, at about half the strength. A page can only hold so much, and the thing that felt limitless turns out to be nine syllables on repeat.

None of this requires you to feel differently first. It only moves the argument onto ground where you are not outnumbered.
