On a long drive there is a particular relief in handing the map across to the passenger seat and simply driving. Not because you were navigating badly. Because doing both at once was costing more than either.
Faith of this kind has less to do with certainty than with load. Somebody else is holding a piece of it, so your attention can go on the stretch of road actually in front of you.
Whether you call that God, or grace, or the people who have quietly taken things over — the relief is identical, and it is not laziness.
