The information doesn't change. What changes is the pace, whether they sat down, whether there was a pause after the part that mattered. None of it is dishonesty. It's the difference between putting something in front of a person and dropping it on them.
Almost everything anybody remembers about a hard conversation is the delivery. The facts get looked up again later. The tone gets carried around for a decade.
