Ease is nearly always the residue of friction somebody removed earlier. The freelancer whose payments arrive on time set up the invoice template, the payment terms and the polite chasing note once, three years ago, and has not thought about any of it since. From outside it looks effortless. From inside there is simply nothing left to decide.
Anywhere money feels sticky, there is usually one unmade decision sitting in the middle of it — a rate never set, an account never opened, a conversation postponed so long it has grown a personality of its own.
