Improvement is invisible at the resolution of a single day, which is unfortunately the resolution most of us are stuck watching at.

Try five years instead. There will be at least one thing in your life right now that you were, back then, actively hoping for — a person, a room, a skill, a debt that no longer exists, a fear you have simply stopped having. You got it, and then you stopped counting it, because that is what happens to things once they are yours. The improving has been going on. It just does not send notifications.
