A compass needle is never actually still. Put one on a table and watch. It drifts, overshoots, wobbles back. What it does not do is stop pointing north.
Something like that is the most any mind manages, and it is enough. There will be a Tuesday that goes badly and a three in the morning that goes worse. Neither is a failure of direction.
What matters is where the needle settles once nothing is pulling on it. That resting position is the honest description of a person. Not the wobble, which everybody has and nobody mentions.
