People discover things about themselves this way that twenty comfortable years never produced. Which friendships they actually want. What work was only ever habit.

None of that makes the illness worth it. Nobody has to pretend the trade was fair.

But the information is yours now, and it doesn't have to be handed back when the energy returns. That is the part worth keeping.
