Abundance is everywhere around me.

Go to a market at five, when the stalls are packing up. There are more tomatoes there than anyone is going to buy, crates of them, and the whole thing happens again on Thursday.

Surplus is the natural state of a great many things. A single apple tree makes more apples than a household can eat; a field goes to seed with a wastefulness that would look insane in a spreadsheet. Scarcity is real too — real bills, real months. But it is not the underlying condition of the world, and standing in front of those crates is a cheap way of recalling that.
