Wanting is easy and accepting is oddly hard. Plenty of people who long for a good partnership find themselves flinching when one turns up: deflecting the compliment, insisting on paying, refusing the lift to the airport at six in the morning.
Accepting means letting somebody do something for you and not immediately levelling the score.
Try it once, small. Let a favour stand. Say thank you and stop there, without the joke afterwards, without the promise to make it up to them.
