Ask anyone who has done a stretch in hospital what to bring and you get an oddly specific list: a phone cable longer than the one you own, earplugs, your own pillowcase, slippers with a back on them. None of it is in the leaflet.
That is the curriculum. Not wisdom about suffering — logistics, and the one piece of information that lets somebody stop bracing. Anyone a few months ahead of you did this for you, probably without noticing they were doing it, and you are already a few months ahead of somebody.
