Capable is not the same as currently doing it, which is what makes this bearable to read on a bad day. Someone who learned to swim at eight is still capable at forty after twenty years out of the water. The ability didn't leave. It went unused.
Self-acceptance works the same way. You have done it before, probably during a stretch when things were steady and you weren't auditing yourself hourly. Nothing needs building from scratch. The task is closer to returning to something than acquiring it, which is a considerably shorter journey.
