Readiness is mostly decided afterwards. Very few stand at the edge feeling adequately prepared. They go, it turns out they could, and that gets remembered as having been ready.
Ask anybody who has had a first child, or opened a shop, or given evidence in a court. Preparation helps. It never arrives at completeness, because the thing being prepared for hasn't shown its actual shape yet.
Readiness isn't a report on your qualifications, then. It is a decision to start counting from here, with whatever equipment you happen to have on you today.
