I am so happy to succeed in my job.

There are two records of any working year. The official one, made of targets and reviews and whatever the software counted. And the private one, which nobody else keeps.

The private record holds the afternoon you handled a call that would have flattened you in your first month. The thing you built that still works. The person you trained who is now better at it than you are.

Only one of those gets read out. The other is what tends to make people quietly pleased on the drive home, for reasons they would struggle to explain to anyone at the table.
