The thing you actually bring is usually not the thing you would put on a form. Somebody's real contribution is that meetings they chair end when they said they would. Somebody else's is that they will always say the awkward thing out loud, which lets everyone else stop pretending.

Nobody gets told this about themselves, so it stays invisible from the inside. To find yours, look at what people come to you for rather than at what your title says you do. The pattern tends to be obvious to everybody except the person standing in the middle of it.
