There comes a point in most worthwhile projects where yours is the only vote still in favour. The funding didn't come. The people who were enthusiastic in March have moved on. Nothing external is arguing for continuing.

What's left is not a mood but a decision: whose opinion gets the deciding say when the room is split.

It doesn't require thinking you're always right. It requires being the last one to leave the case, and that has to be sturdier than most things in this world, because most things in this world are weather.
