Match footage gets watched twice: once by everybody, and once at two in the morning by the player who dropped the catch. Ninety minutes of competent work, and the reel that runs on a loop is four seconds long.
The standard applied inward is almost never the standard applied outward. You would not sit a friend down and take them through their four seconds. You would not be able to think of it as fair.
Judging yourself feels like rigour — the thing that keeps you honest and prevents a repeat. Mostly it just makes the same four seconds longer.
