I feel surrounded by love everywhere.

Somebody got up at three this morning to bake the bread you will buy without thinking about it. That is not affection exactly, but it is care, distributed through strangers and dull systems.

Love in the strong personal sense comes from a handful of people. Love in the wide sense is far more common and far less noticed: the neighbour who takes your bin in, the colleague who covers a meeting, the friend who still texts after months of nothing back.

Surrounded is an accurate word once the definition is wide enough.

Count the ordinary kindnesses you received before lunch.
