There is a mistake you still replay at two in the morning, years after everyone else involved has forgotten it happened.
The lesson from that one was extracted long ago. What kept running afterwards was the penalty, and it stopped teaching you anything a long time back.
Those two are separable, which is the useful part. You can keep the knowledge — don't take that kind of job, don't say that to someone exhausted — while quietly closing the account on the rest.
Ask what the replay is still teaching. If the answer is nothing new since the first time, you have served it. The lesson stays. The rest can be set down.
