Pluck a low string on a guitar and hold a second one near it, untouched, and it begins to sound on its own. Nothing crossed the gap that you can see. The first string simply set the conditions for the second.
People do a version of this constantly, and mostly without consent. Sit with somebody agitated for twenty minutes and your own hands are different by the end of it. Sit with somebody genuinely settled and the same thing happens in the other direction.
Which means the state you're carrying is never entirely your own business. It's the note in the room, and everyone else is tuned nearer to it than they realise.
