Three weeks away from the gym is where you find out which one you have got. The contract version says you have forfeited your place and would need penance to earn it back, so you may as well not bother. The other version puts the bag by the door and goes on Thursday, without a speech.

Nothing in that second option requires feeling good about yourself. It just declines to make care depend on a clean record — the only kind that is any use in a bad month.
