Pain is a poor historian.
On a bad evening it reports that things have always been like this and always will be, and it has access to neither fact.
What is true and easy to lose is that it varies. There were minutes today when it was smaller than usual — during a phone call, in the first ten seconds of hot water, while something on the radio held your attention. Those minutes happened even though nothing wrote them down.
Noticing them is not a cure and doesn't pretend to be. Call it an argument with a bad historian, made from evidence.
