The sorting is the whole job, and it is rarely done once. Most things arrive mixed — a result you cannot hurry sitting next to a bag you can pack, a decision that belongs to somebody else next to an email that belongs to you.
Ten minutes with a pen usually separates them, and the separation alone lowers the temperature. Not because the uncontrollable half gets any smaller, but because it stops being confused with the half that has something to do.
