It goes out in small amounts, mostly.
The apology at the front of a question. The suggestion offered as though it were somebody else's. The three-line email rewritten eight times so that nobody could possibly take offence.
None of that is weakness. Usually it is an accurate reading of a room where offering an opinion once cost somebody something.
Calling it back is not a dramatic act either. It is one thing said plainly, with the softening taken out and nothing added. Then another one, next week.
